Twitter is removing spam profiles
Twitter says that probably the reason behind this is to remove the spam profile on Twitter. In a post, Twitter explains that the company asks accounts to be verified (most arbitrarily) by password or phone number. “We do this regularly to help prevent spam and keep all accounts secure,” the company said. This essentially means that the platform scrutinizes accounts that either project offline behavior or act as troll accounts created with temporary email IDs.In response to Deccan Herald, the company allows users to personalize personal information. It then locks these unresponsive accounts, and such profiles are not added to the followers list.
Twitter via SMS service is also a reason to stop
For example, last year, Twitter decided to shut down the “Twitter via SMS service” in most countries. The decision was taken by the company to “protect” users’ Twitter accounts following vulnerabilities with the SMS service. Twitter noted that due to the removal of the service, some users may see a drop in their number of followers. The company had said that removing these inactive accounts would ensure more active and authentic followers on the Twitter profiles of users.
