New Delhi. A dentist by profession, Shaiba left her job in 2019 for business. He also worked with a Dubai-based online aggregator who worked in ethnic fashion for some time and then started the startup platform Manera with his sister Shabana Salaam. Shaiba and Shabana have completed around 10,000 orders in the last few months across Kochi, Bengaluru, Pune, Trivandrum, Calicut and other cities. In the year 2021 on the theme of Made in India, the company aims to onboard over 500 sellers to cater to over two million buyers across India. In the news published in YourStory, Shabana says that the use of internet and smartphone is now increasing rapidly in Tier II and III cities outside metro cities as well. Startup started with the idea of providing a market place to small brandsThe two sisters met several small brands and retailers from India before starting the startup. They did not have market exposure despite the e-commerce boom in the country. Shabana claims that 70 per cent of the $100 billion Indian fashion retail space consists of unorganized and unbranded retailers, small brands and unknown designers. They either have no online presence or get lost among the big names on big platforms. Hence, the idea of creating a platform for these small brands and budding designers came up. However, both knew that advanced technology was needed to compete with Amazon and Myntra.
