New Delhi. US President-elect Joe Biden on Monday nominated Janet Yellen for the post of finance secretary and Indian-American Neera Tandon as director of the Office of Management and Budget, the top White House post. If confirmed by the US Senate, Yellen, 74, would be the first woman in its 231-year history to head the finance ministry. On the other hand, if Tandon (50) is confirmed for this position in the US Senate, she will be the first black woman to head the influential ‘Office of Management and Budget’ (OMB) in the White House. Tandon is currently the chief executive officer of the left-leaning ‘Center for American Progress’.
Only women in senior press team
Biden has given only women a place in his senior press team. This is the first time in the history of America that any President’s prest team should be all women. The team will be led by Kate Bedingfield, who formerly served as deputy communications director for Biden’s campaign. Biden has promised that he will diversify his administration to reflect the country’s diversity. Let us tell you that Jane Psaki, who was the communications director of the White House during the tenure of President Barack Obama, will be Biden’s press secretary.
President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris today announced new members of the White House staff who will serve in senior communications roles.
Biden issued a statement saying that it is the responsibility of the President to keep direct and accurate communication with the people of America. This team has the responsibility of connecting the White House with the American people. I am sure it will live up to this. The team’s qualified and experienced communicators will work on different aspects. Everyone will join the mission of making America better again. Kamala Harris’ two chief press officers will be Simone Sanders and Ashley Etienne. Unlike cabinet positions, the press office does not require the approval of the Senate.
Know who is Janet Yellen
For the first time in America, a woman is going to become a finance minister. 74-year-old Janet has been the head of the central bank Federal Reserve. Yellen has a deep understanding of economic matters. Experts believe that she can play a decisive role in shaping and direction of Biden’s economic policies. Currently the Yellen Research Institute is at the Brookings Institute. She was the head of the Federal Reserve from 2014 to 2018. Prior to this, from 1997 to 1999, she was the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council of the White House.
Neera Tandon, Office Management and Budget Director
Neera Tandon served as policy director for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign. Previously, he served as deputy director and deputy campaign manager in Clinton’s Senate office. He also served as a senior policy adviser in the Bill Clinton administration.
