From today onwards, no other edible oil can be mixed with mustard oil. Now you will get pure mustard oil in the market too. The ban on mixing mustard oil in the production and packing of edible vegetable oil (MSEVO) prepared from different source oils has come into effect from today i.e. Tuesday. An order to this effect was issued by the government on Monday.
Accordingly, the permission or approval given to the packers regarding the addition of mustard oil in the production of MSEVO has been withdrawn. According to this, now mustard oil cannot be mixed with edible oils of other sources. The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, which comes under the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, has issued an order in the name of all the packing of mixed edible vegetable oil to the regional offices located in New Delhi, saying that ‘Multi-source Food Prohibition and sale of mustard oil in the production of vegetable oil has been imposed. This order will come into force from June 8, 2021 and July 1, 2021 respectively.
Attaching to the circular dated 8th March 2021 of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Scientific Committee of FSSAI dated 29th December 2020, it has been said that in this notification the multi-source edible vegetable oils so far known as blended edible vegetable oils Vegetable oil is defined. It said that the grading and marketing rules of Blended Edible Vegetable Oil (BEVO) would be deemed to be amended as per the notification of FSSAI since the commodities covered under AGMARK are required to comply with FSSAI regulations.
