Due to the second wave of coronavirus, the central government has decided to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) till Diwali. PM Modi has made this announcement today on 7th June. Modi, while addressing the nation on the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, said that by November, more than 80 crore countrymen would get a certain amount of free food grains every month. Let us inform that after implementing the scheme last year also, it was extended till Diwali and Chhath.

If you also want to take advantage of this scheme of the government, then you have to first open your account in any bank. To take advantage of PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, it is necessary to fill a form. Through this form, the government gets to know how much property you have. After this, if you live in the village then you will have to go to the Gram Panchayat and register your name. If you live in the city, you will have to go to the municipality and contact.
Benefits available under PMGKY scheme
Under this scheme, poor people can get free food grains without any ration card. In this scheme, there is a provision to give 5 kg of wheat or rice and 1 kg of gram to a family. This free 5 kg food grain is in addition to the existing quota of food grains available on the ration card.
Ration is also available through Aadhaar without ration card
You do not need a ration card to take food grains under PMJKY. Rather, the needy get ration only from Aadhaar. But you have to register for this scheme through your Aadhar card. A slip is given to them upon registration. By showing which one gets free food grains.
2.6 crore beneficiaries took advantage of this scheme in June
Let us inform that Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said in a media briefing on June 3 that under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, about 1.3 lakh tonnes of wheat and rice have been distributed to 2.6 crore beneficiaries in June so far.
