Facebook has launched a new feature ‘Personalised’ News for UK users. This new feature has been given in a dedicated tab in the Facebook mobile app, which can be accessed by going to ‘More Options’ and tapping on the three-line icon. In this tab, with the help of Facebook algorithm, Major Daily News and ‘Personalize’ news will be given based on user preferences. Facebook says it pays publishers for “content that doesn’t already exist on the platform.” Also, the social media giant says that this feature will also provide new advertising and subscription opportunities to publishers.
This may be partly based on data from the United States, which Facebook says drives more than 95% of traffic to Facebook News from people who haven’t read those publications before. The social network says the new product is “a multi-year investment that puts original journalism in front of new audiences,” and news organizations, for whom new readers are often in short supply, are also signing up.
“This is the beginning of a series of international investments in news,” it said in a blog. Facebook News was created to bring people closer to the stories that impact their lives and the community around them. We aim to build on our efforts to maintain great national and local journalism and create more value for publishers, it added.
